Project Engineer II - Substation/Relaying Division (Hughesville, MD)

Compensation: Based on Experience and Qualifications


Occupational Summary:

Engineer II performs a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs. Engineer II works under limited supervision and is expected to have a reasonable level of independence with required engineering tasks.


Position requirements include:

  •  Performs development of plans, specifications and inspection reports.
  •  Preparation of material lists and labor contracts.
  •  Preparation of substation designs and construction drawings.
  •  Basic administration of material purchases and construction contracts.
  •  Provide direction to designers, CAD operators on candidate’s assigned team.
  •  Significant customer and vendor interaction.
  •  Moderate proficiency in multiple areas of substation engineering such as physical layout design, protection/control design, relay settings programming, field support, substation commissioning, relay testing
  •  Supervises work and assists in training of other engineers.
  •  Performs advanced functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  •  Must interface well with employees at all levels.
  •  Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Senior Engineer - System Planning Division (Raleigh, NC) 

Occupational Summary: 

Growing Full Service Consulting Engineering firm serving utility industry is seeking a Senior Engineer within the Planning, System Studies, and Distribution Automation Engineering team to perform related engineering tasks with a high level of diversified technical expertise and leadership to solve design problems under minimal supervision. This position reports to the Division Vice President.  The incumbent is expected to apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.  Preferred areas of competence / experience include (not limited to): Power Quality, Arc Flash, Distributed Generation, Battery Energy Storage, and Micro-grid studies / analysis / implementation.

The primary objectives of this position are to plan, organize, and execute assigned engineering studies. In this position, the incumbents will at times be expected to carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

Position requirements include:

Expected to accurately produce required results without specific direction in a timely fashion. At this level, the Sr. Engineer shall be proficient in basic and more complex design scope and scheduling, understand electric utility planning/reliability criteria, be an active mentor to young designers/engineers within the department, and be able to effectively communicate inadequacies in information provided by others and offer recommendations to comply with applicable design and safety requirements/codes (such as IEEE, NESC, NEC, NFPA).

Must have working knowledge of electric utility systems: 480 VAC through 230,000 VAC, VDC experience preferred, as well.

Be an active leader in the modeling and evaluation of Client power utility and various Distributed Generation systems to ensure the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner.   Sr. Engineer is also expected to conduct accurate and efficient design reviews of work completed by peers in support of company commitment to quality.

Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches. Must be able to make decisions leading to successful management of assigned tasks.

Usher final signed-sealed approval and certification of project deliverables with minimal supervision.

Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design.

Engineer I - Baltimore Office (Civil or Electrical) (Baltimore, MD) 

Occupational Summary: 

Engineer I is an entry-level position within the Baltimore Satellite office team to perform electric and gas utility related engineering tasks and provide technical expertise to solve design problems under close supervision.  Incumbents are expected to perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices and programs.  This position reports to the Operations Manager.  The engineer will need to be flexible with work assignments and eager to learn new tasks as the office grows.

Position requirements include:

Works under close supervision and receives specific and detailed instructions for required tasks and results expected.

Participate in the design and evaluation of Client both electric and gas transmission and distribution infrastructure to ensure that the needs of the Client are met in the most economical and effective manner

Participate infrastructure design using AutoCAD, PLS-CADD and/or other design tools.

Develop understanding and expertise of DOT 192, ASME and local jurisdiction natural gas requirements. Participate in preparation and administration of client construction contracts.

Develop understanding and expertise of RUS and NESC requirements. Participate in preparation and administration of IOU, RUS, state, and municipal construction contracts.

Review engineering plans, specifications and equipment for utility projects.

Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.

Assist in the continued development of both Company and Client standards to provide guidelines for future project planning and design

Perform basic functions of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
